You might think food security is something we don’t have to worry about here in the Midlands. But with global warming and conflicts across the world affecting the supply chains, none of us are immune from shortages.

The UK imports almost half of its food and that’s unlikely to change quickly. But research done during the RIPEHouse project, demonstrates how a new method of natural light growing can make a difference, here at Warwick University’s Innovation Campus in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire.

The idea being to make what we grow in the UK more sustainable and nutritious, without additional cost or work. It is challenging the perceptions around our capabilities for food production.

And it starts with baby cucumbers. Horticultural Research Officer, Oliver Baker, tells us more.
